Teacher trainees towards the practical component of the “Diploma in Elementary Education” (D.EI.Ed.) programme. In the first year of the D. El. Ed. Programme, the practicum part contains three types of activities broadly include under School Based Activities‘. The activities are :
Group A: Work and Education
Group B: School and Health
Group C: Maintenance of Workbook
The activities under “Group A: Work and Education” have been designed with ati intention to develop the skills in conducting socio-metric tests and organization of excursion, field trip, picnic, exhibition. activities, etc. by the teacher trainees. These activities will also help them to know how to lake the teaching-learning process outside the classroom and beyond text- books.
In Group A of the “School Based Activities” there are four types of activities, out of which trainees have to penorm two activities. They have to do the active no – 1 compulsorily and are free to choose any one activity out of the activity nos.
The activities under “Group B: School and Health” are intended to increase the observation skills of the teacher trainees, their understanding of the school environment and their knowledge of how environment affect the health of the students
The teacher trainees have to carry out these activities along with their regular school work.

➧Nature of the Activity: You have to prepare, administer and analyze a socio-metric test in your classroom
➧Objectives: Conducting a socio-metric test in the classroom will enable to –
➧Develop your skills in identifying the stars, the mutual pairs and the isolates in your class
➧You in finding out how the group processes work
➧Make you understand the group dynamics in the class
➧Increase your efficiency in initiating measures to improve group dynamics wherever necessary
➧Your Role:
➧Firstly, you will have to undergo a counseling session about the preparation and administration of the Sociometric test with the academic counselor of your respective study centers.
➧Next you have to prepare a socio-metric test and administer the test in your classroom and draw a socio-gram.
➧From the socio-gram, you have to identify stars, isolates, mutual pairs and chains.
➧You are also required to devise strategies for bringing improvement in the group- Dula eviloe dynamics of your class.
➧Reporting: You have to prepare a report on conducting socio-metric test in around 5 to 10
pages in the format given in the Appendix:A-I. The report should be authenticated by comments of your mentor.
➧Counselor’s Role: Counselor’s role is to help you in understanding the theoretical aspects of group dynamics in children and guide you in preparation and administration and analysis of a socio-metric test.

The students can follow following step preparation of School Based Activities on the topic of Organization of an Excursion or Field Trip
➧Nature of the Activity:You have to plan for and organize an excursion or field trip to a suitable nearby place such as a monument of historical importance, market place, bank of a river, village, industry, sanctuary, library, museum, zoological park, botanical garden, post-office, power-house, nursery, etc.
➧Objective: Organizing an excursion or field trip will enable to –
➧ Develop your skill of planning, organization and management of an excursion/field trip
➧Provide an opportunity to your students to gain practical knowledge through exploration and observation
➧Your Role:
First of all you have to discuss with your mentor about your plan of organizing a field trip and then decide the place of excursion/field trip keeping in view of the following points in view-
➧Interest of the students
➧Safety of the students
➧Communication facilities
➧Expenditure in terms of money and time
➧Permission of the head master/mistress
Before setting out for the journey, you should discuss with the students about the place of trip to increase their knowledge and curiosity about the place. You must guide your students about the important things which they should take note of.
You are also required to observe the behaviour of your students during and after the trip.
➧Reporting: You have to prepare a report on this excursion/field trip in around 5 to 10 pages in format given in the Appendix:A-II. Your report should be authenticated with documented evidence such as photographs. You have to submit your reports in your respective study centres for evaluation.
➧Mentor’s Role: Mentor’s role is to guide you in planning and execution of your excursion/ field trip and to authenticate the report prepared by you with specific comments based on banuo abeces s his/her observation.

The students can follow following step preparation of School Based Activities on the topic of SCHOOL AND HEALTH
➧ACTIVITIES
The main activity of this practicum course is to write a report on the basis of your observation of the following areas in your school and offer your comments and suggestions.
➧1.Surrounding of the School: Under the school environment, you have to write in your report on the basis of your observation of the following main points- location of the school, is there any market place or cinema hall, etc. near the school, transportation /communication facilities to school, etc. Your comments/suggestions:

School Building: Under this point, your report should contain – the nature of your school building that is whether it is made of concrete or not, the numbers and also quality of the classrooms in your school, whether there are provisions for proper light and ventilation or not, whether there an earth-quake and fire protection devices or not, etc.
